Adding a Dedicated Account takes a few minutes. You choose how it's set up and which projects can use it, and we take it from there: we create a brand-new Reddit account and warm it up for 10 days before it's ready to post.

This article covers the ordering steps. For the full journey from warm-up to your first comment, see Getting Started with Engain Dedicated Account.

Before you start

  • Set up your project. Make sure your Engain project has your website and company description filled in under Settings > General. Automatic setup uses it to choose the account's topic and subreddits.

  • Switch to the right project. Use the project menu at the top of the sidebar. If you're an agency, switch to the client's project before adding their account.

  • Check what's included. Pro and Max plans include one account. On Lite, or for extra accounts, it's $79 a month. See Dedicated Accounts Pricing.

Step 1: Open Add account

In the left sidebar, click Dedicated Accounts, then Accounts. Click Add account in the top right, or the Add another account card at the end of your list.

You can also add one without leaving the thread builder: open the account dropdown on any comment or reply and click Add dedicated account at the bottom.

Step 2: Choose Automatic or Custom

Under How should we set it up?, pick one. You can't change this after the warm-up starts.

Best if

You want to get going fast

You know exactly which communities you want to reach

Automatic: you'll see a preview of the project, topic and the subreddits it will warm up in. If something looks off, click Change these.

Custom: fill in the following.

  • Topic: the subject the account is known for.

  • Subreddits to warm up in: type a subreddit and press Enter to add it, or click the x to remove one. Pick communities where your product would come up naturally.

  • Profile (optional): a Display name, Profile picture and Bio. Leave them empty and we'll create a profile that fits the topic.

Step 3: Choose which projects can use it

Under Which projects can use it?, the current project is added for you. Click Add project to add more, or click the x on a project to remove it. The account only shows up, and can only post, in the projects you pick.

Running several brands? Give each brand its own account. See Using Dedicated Accounts across multiple projects.

Step 4: Review the summary and pay

The Summary panel on the right shows your setup, projects and the date the account will be Ready to post.

  1. Use the + and - buttons next to Accounts to order more than one at once.

  2. Under Pay with, choose your card or credits.

  3. Check what's Due today, then click the pay button to start.

If the account is included with your Pro or Max plan, there's nothing to pay.

What happens next

  • The account appears on your Accounts page as Warming up, with a progress bar and its ready date.

  • Open it and tick Email me when it's ready so you don't have to keep checking.

  • After 10 days it turns Active and you can start posting. See Posting from your Dedicated Account.

  • Planning to post in bigger subreddits? Consider karma building first. See Building karma for your Dedicated Account.

Common questions

Can I change from Automatic to Custom later? No. The setup type, topic and subreddits are locked once warm-up starts. You can still edit the profile anytime.

Can I pick the username? No. Reddit assigns the username when the account is created, and it can't be changed.

Can I add several accounts at once? Yes. Use the + button next to Accounts in the Summary.

Want a hand choosing? Click Book a Call at the top of Engain and we'll walk you through it.
