Words That Get Your Content Flagged

Reddit readers and moderators spot marketing language fast, and so do subreddit filters. Most of the time it isn't the product mention that gets a comment removed. It's that the comment reads like copy.

Marketing superlatives

The clearest signal. Nobody recommending something casually reaches for these.

Avoid: game-changer, best-in-class, revolutionary, cutting-edge, industry-leading, world-class, next-level, unparalleled, seamless, effortless, powerful, robust, innovative, state-of-the-art, premier, ultimate, must-have, life-changing

Instead: say what it does. "It handles X" beats "it's a game-changing solution for X."

Sales-funnel language

Words that belong on a landing page, not in a thread. So the idea is similar to simplifying language to seem more humanized and avoid empowered words.

Avoid: solution, offering, platform, suite, leverage, empower, unlock, streamline, optimize, supercharge, transform, elevate, maximize, drive results, boost your, scale your, 10x

Instead: plain verbs. Use, run, handle, fix, cut down, speed up.

Calls to action

The fastest way to get removed. Comments don't ask people to convert.

Avoid: check it out, give it a try, DM me, link in bio, sign up here, limited time, exclusive offer, free trial, book a demo, get started today, don't miss out, hit me up

Instead: nothing. Say what you know and stop. If someone wants the link, they'll ask.

Fake-casual openers

These try to sound like a real person and land in the opposite place.

Avoid: honestly, literally life-saving, I was in the same boat, I can't recommend it enough, this might sound like an ad but, not affiliated but, I stumbled across, I've tried them all and

Instead: just answer the question. The disclaimer that you're not advertising is itself a tell.

The bigger patterns

Vocabulary is the surface. These matter more:

Too much structure. Headers, bold text and tidy bullet lists in a comment look like content marketing. Most Reddit comments are a couple of plain paragraphs.

Perfect polish. Flawless grammar across six paragraphs reads as written for publication rather than typed into a reply box.

Only upside. Real recommendations mention what's annoying about the thing. A comment with no drawbacks reads as an ad regardless of word choice.

No alternatives. Someone genuinely helping usually names two or three options. Mentioning only one is the tell.

Answering a question nobody asked. The surest removal of all. If the thread isn't about your category, no wording saves it.

The test

Read your comment next to the others in the thread. If it sounds like it came from a different kind of website, it did, and that's what gets it flagged.

And one honest caveat worth including: swapping words won't rescue a comment that is fundamentally an ad. If the only reason it exists is to deliver a product name, rewording buys you very little. The comments that last are the ones that would still be useful with the product name removed.
