Do I get charged for comments that get removed?

It depends on how and when the comment was removed.

1. Comments removed by Automod

You are NOT charged.

Automod removals happen instantly and usually mean:

  • A blocked link was used

  • A restricted word triggered the filter

If the status shows “Automod Removed”, the comment never went live.

What to do

  • Remove links

  • Rephrase the comment

  • Avoid restricted words

2. All other comment removals

If a comment shows as “Published”, it was successfully posted and you are charged, even if it gets removed later.

Once a comment goes live on Reddit, delivery is considered complete.

A. Reddit’s Spam Filters

Reddit may remove comments after they have been live. This can happen minutes, hours, or days later.

Common reasons:

  • Too many upvotes too quickly, especially on older threads

  • Posting the same domain repeatedly (more than 5 times in 24 hours)

  • Overusing a domain in a short period, which can lead to automatic removals or the domain being blocked

  • Spammy or AI-generated content

There is no way to detect when a comment was removed by Reddit’s spam filters. Reddit does not show this information.

B. Manual moderator removal

Subreddit moderators can manually remove comments.

Common reasons:

  • Breaking subreddit rules

  • Being reported by users

  • Looking promotional, spammy, or low quality

There is no automatic way to detect moderator removals.

How to reduce removals

  • Space out comments

  • Avoid repeating the same domain

  • Mix brand mentions with links

  • Keep upvotes gradual

  • Write natural, human-style comments

Summary:

Automod removals are not charged. Any comment that was published and later removed by Reddit filters or moderators is charged. Most removals are caused by fast upvotes, repeated domains, or spam-like content.
